About Richard Moore’s Mediation Skills and Results:
I am the managing partner of my firm, and have been in litigation practice in the City of Ottawa for twenty years. I have known Richard, and used his services as a mediator for a number of years.
Richard has provided mediation services in Civil, Family and Law Firm issues in which I have been involved in over a dozen cases.

I have engaged Richard Moore as a mediator on seven occasions to mediate cases involving my clients. On all seven occasions, I was of course present throughout the mediation, as were my clients. On two of the occasions, the cases involved multiple parties and multiple lawyers in attendance and on six of the seven cases I prematurely believed that the mediation had no chance of being successful. Amazingly, in all seven instances, Mr. Moore somehow managed to successfully resolve all the issues on each file. On each occasion, I was pleasantly surprised that a successful resolution had occurred in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds and/or hostilities.
Mr. Moore possesses a quiet demeanour and focuses quickly and calmly on both the significant issues in the case and the underlying hostilities or sentiments between the parties.

I have had the pleasure of engaging Richard J. Moore to act as a mediator in a wrongful dismissal action in which I was counsel. I was present throughout the entire mediation session.
Mr. Moore was a superb mediator, exhibiting a strong command of both the mediation process and the intricacies of workplace disputes. About Richard Moore’s dispute resolution system design and training abilities:
All the work from October 2002 was done in collaboration with myself as Carter Center project director ….. and with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Guyana. The work was done in an environment where there was no experience in the mediation process, much ethnic tension, and many political and civil society challenges. The team sought and obtained the buy in and support of the main labour, government, bar and civil society leaders and the program is continuing to this date in spite of the many challenges.
Throughout the process, I found Richard to be a consummate professional in terms of his responsiveness, collaborative approach and respect for views and roles of others, clarity and thoroughness of communications in all matters (verbal and oral), ability to assimilate and work within the environment of a foreign culture, willingness to put in whatever effort was required to achieve the goals of the activity, flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances or demands, diplomacy in dealing with the project donor as well as a range of high level officials in the courts and beyond,
With respect to his technical capacity in ADR and mediation, I am no expert in this field but I can state unequivocally that the training that was designed for the Guyanese lawyers was well adapted to the situation (including consultation with key participants in advance), well organized and planned, clearly delivered, kept the participants engaged at all times over the course of three days ………. and received rave reviews from the participants in the post-workshop evaluations collected and analyzed by myself. The training materials were well designed to both support the training activity and serve as a resource for the mediators after the training. I also attended a mediator training at MDR Associates Conflict Resolution Inc. in Ottawa in 2003, facilitated to a very high standard by Richard Moore and his colleagues, with excellent materials, organization, and content.
Based on my observations as the project progressed and the participants began to mediate cases, and the feedback received about those mediations, I believe that the training was very appropriate and in fact achieved the goal of developing the basic skills of mediators in this group of lawyers. This was followed up with another well executed training after the mediators had begun to work and get some practical experience, which was able to identify some of the problematic areas specific to this context and work with the mediators to develop strategies for dealing with them.
In my interactions over 18 months with the key stakeholders involved in this project, I never heard anything but positive feedback about Richard’s professionalism and ability as a mediation expert and trainer………..
